Torque Drift 2: Update 0.11.0 - Release Notes

30 Sep 2024

New Game Mode - Drift Skills

Are you a Grassroots drifter, constantly spinning out and wanting to get better at handling your car? Or are you more of an experienced drifter, looking to sharpen up your skills before heading into a tandem battle with your friends? Well, even if you’re neither of those, check out the all-new “Drift Skills” Game mode within the Driving menu. Race against the clock & earn the target score to progress in a series of 30 different challenges. That increases in complexity each time. So get out there, practice your skills and try to reach the top score for each layout, whilst also earning some XP on the side.

Drift Skills will teach you all the fundamentals of drifting and any unique gameplay elements unique to Torque Drift 2.
This includes the use of your hand brake to initiate a drift, donuts as an introduction to counter steering, drift areas that can be completed by driving through while in drift, and drift zones which can be completed by maintaining a continuous drift along the curvature of the zone.

We would love to expand on this game mode more if it’s popular, so let us know what you think in the TD2 Discord!

Dedicated Multiplayer Servers

We heard you loud and clear! With this update, we now support “Dedicated Servers”. Within the “Lobbies” section you can create your own session or join anyone else with an open lobby via the server browser. We have also simplified the lobby invite codes which have made them easier to remember & input so you can join your friends as quickly as possible!

Note
: Currently the Daikoku track and modded tracks are only supported in peer-to-peer lobbies though we hope to improve the availability of these features in future updates.

Driving Experience Enhancements & Improvements

Animated Car Dashes and Dial

Another feature we have been hard at work completing is the addition of animated Dashes and Dials!

In first-person view, your car’s dash will now update in real-time just like they would in real life! So slam down that throttle and watch the dial flicker in the red. This feature is now available on every car in the game.

Backfires and Burbles

Who doesn’t love burbles and backfires? We’ve added these to increase the immersion of the driving experience. We are releasing this feature with the ability to adjust the intensity and frequency within the ECU tuning menu.

Clutch Slip Visualiser

Don’t you hate it when you upgrade your engine but your car doesn’t seem to be any faster? You may be encountering clutch slip! Well, to help combat that we have added clutch smoke that will appear while driving plus a warning icon to let you know if you may need to upgrade your clutch. The message will show up when your Engine Torque is higher than the Max Torque threshold for the selected clutch.

New Tire Compounds and PSI tuning

These new compounds allow you to better set up your car to how you want it! These come with the added ability to adjust the tires Pressure in the tune menu (lower pressure will give you more grip and a higher pressure will make lower HP cars easier to drift).

  • Street Compound -> The least grippy tire available in the game. Recommended for cars in the 0 to 350 nm range of Torque.
  • Sport Compound -> Slightly more grippy than Street. Recommended for cars in the 350 to 575nm range of Torque.
  • Semi-Slick Compound -> Aggressive tire compound run by pro cars. Recommended above 575nm of Torque.
These new tires will be available and equipable through the inventory. Street, Sport and Semi-Slick , you can tell the difference by looking for a colored dot on the side wall that indicates the type of compound. Street -> Green, Sport -> Yellow, Semislick -> red.

Drone Mode

Drone mode is a fully independent camera that lets you fly around any track of your choosing! Available in practice and Multiplayer lobbies. Enjoy taking awesome photos of your cars inside our beautiful tracks or cinematic videos utilizing an external screen recorder and the drone's “ Hide UI” functionality.

New Layouts on Daikoku

Explore 7 new layouts on the Daikoku track, featuring technical routes with sharp, tight corners designed to push your drifting precision. These will be introduced slowly through our events system over the coming weeks so keep an eye out!
